The magic comes from while traversing to those objectives you'll be besieged at any moment from any direction, and you'll have to adapt on the spot and form your battle lines or set up ambush traps as fast as you can. You'll find yourself doing basic stuff like defend a point on the map, or escort a NPC, or destroy a specific thing on the map, or just straight up survive. If I had to describe it I would call it small scale Total War mixed with a bit of Warhammer. No resource management, no base building just a few rag tag units for you to control and traverse large maps to tackle different objectives. Soundtracks for both games were composed by the same people that did the Halo music later on. Should give you a good vibe of what the games are.
